During Project Justice @ Peace, we were reminded that God is present through us to others when we love. Our advocacy project has been a labor of love. We hope you enjoy it and will pass on the love to others.

Monday night we had 3 amazing guest speakers @ Project Justice. Sarah Tarbell, lead organizer for IMPACT, shared about the 31 local congregations coming together to pursue justice in Charlottesville. Barbara Price & Irene Cernik shared stories from their recent mission trip to SW Virginia.

Listening to the first-hand accounts of someone's journey from concerned observer to active participant helps us all see that we just need to be willing to take the first step in helping others and that God will provide for our journey. Here's what the kids had to say about what they heard and learned.

"The difference between justice and charity is that justice fixes the cause of the problem, charity helps with the damage it does."

"I learned and thought about today was people who don't have as much as we do. And I hope to help them some day."

"I learned that God helps us see that there are people in the world who are different than us."

"I learned that God is trying to help you help others. He wants you to help each other."

"The southwest VA trip made me realize and learn that you have to go out of your comfort zone to help people in need, but it is not bad to do it."

"I am having an awesome time doing Project Justice. I am really starting to see things through a new pair of eyes."

"I learned that there are more people that help our community than I thought."

"What I learned that made me think differently or challenge myself would be to go on a trip somewhere I am not comfortable."

The purpose of our time together is to:

Get us thinking about social justice; what is it? how is it different than charity? how does it affect us?
Investigate social justice issues and identify an issue that you feel passionate about.
Plan a project that will help educate about and /or advocate for a specific social justice issue.

The expectations:

Respectful participation and engagement.
Written “blog” posts to keep community up to date on activities.
A “finished” project at the end of the week that will help educate about or advocate for a justice issue.
